Last week we wanted to check out a local swimming pool but then realized that it was a German holiday, so it would be crowded. I did some quick research on the Internet and found Aqua World (Les Thermes) in Strassen, Luxembourg so we decided to go check it out. We found this was a GREAT idea because it was not a holiday in Luxembourg and we had the place pretty much to ourselves.
There is a large parking area on either side of the unique looking facility and it is free.
I had checked the prices online and was planning on paying a rate per person per hour but was surprised to find that they offer a group rate for up to families of 5 (2 Adults and 3 kids or 1 Adult & 4 kids) for €23 for 4 hours. They also have a restaurant and a snack bar in the swimming area. The prices were reasonable for the snacks & drinks.
After you pay you get armbands to wear, the kids get orange, the adults get black. You put them to the turnstile to let you in. After you get through the locker rooms are on the right. Mens & Women’s are separate but you can walk down to the mens/womens there is no divider in the hallway. The lockers are free you just use your armband to lock it and unlock it. There are also cubbies out in the swimming area to keep your towels, flip flops, etc. Another great thing about the armband is that you can use it as ‘currency’ at the snack bar (up to €50) and then you settle up on the way out. We have used something similar in Japan. That way there is no need to carry money while you are in the facility.
The facility was nice & clean and well kept. There were several lifeguards watching over the areas as well. There is a wave pool, kiddie pool, 2 slides, and a pool that connects to the outdoor pool on the left side of the building. On the right side is a smaller pool and the large deep pool with lanes for swimming and low & high diving board.
The kiddie pool was shallow and had some fountains in it and foam floating toys. There is seating for the parents as well as a crib for use. The wave pool is across from the kiddie pool. The wave pool was on a timer so it would have waves for a period of time and then turn off and just be a pool area until the next wave session.
We arrived around 12:45 pm and pretty much had the place to ourselves. There were a few moms there with some smaller kids. Around 3 pm more families showed up and a few teenagers, I’m assuming because school was out but even when we left around 4 pm it was in no way crowded.
Outside there is a small pool that connects to the indoor one, lounge chairs & sun tents, as well as volleyball pit and ping pong tables.
The slides were the hit of the day for our family. The slide on the right goes SUPER fast, you literally get in it and fly to the bottom, it was so much fun! The slide to the left was slower & multiple people could go down at a time, in order to go faster you had to spin around in the tube, which was fun as well.
Fast one shoots you out on the left and the slower one is on the right.
If you go up the red stairs it’s the snack bar area with some seating. The area to the right is the restaurant but I think you have to be dry & dressed to eat in there.
When you exit you put your arm band into the turnstile and go through.
We had a great time and I’m glad we went to check it out, it ended up being so much fun getting to use the slides over and over with no waiting time. Around 3 pm when more kids arrived there was starting to be a small wait (few mins) but by that time we’d already gone down them so many times it didn’t matter.
