We’ve been told that we HAD to eat at Chris’ Hot Dogs, it’s supposedly a must-do for those coming through Montgomery, AL. It originally opened in 1917 and is still open today! With that being said it’s one of those hole in the wall or Mom & Pop places so don’t expect anything fancy.
Once you enter through a narrow entry way you make a right and enter in the dining area and seat yourself. We had never been there before so had to ask people at the other table if we were to seat ourselves as no staff came when we entered. We sat down and waited, and waited some more and no one came to acknowledge that any of us were there. The group at the other table was getting antsy. Mr. B walked into the other room to inform the staff that people were waiting to order, so it really didn’t get off to the best start.
We finally found the menus on the wall table, and they were just printed out sheets as seen above, which is fine. The prices were reasonable as well. When the waitress finally came she took the order of the 6 at the other table plus our 4 orders without writing anything down, I was a bit nervous about that. Thankfully it turned out that she knew what she was doing and everyone got the correct order without any issues, we did have to wait a bit to get our food though. The waitress turned out to be super friendly and did a great job serving us.
Mr. B got the hot dog & burger which he really enjoyed.
Bub got the 2 hot dogs and he wasn’t a fan because the hot dogs were red in color and not like ‘normal’ ones, LOL. He ate one of them.
Bea got chicken fingers and fries, she thought they were delicious.
The decor is wood paneling with old school simple tables and chairs, as you can see in the background of this picture. Green and white checkered flooring and some was torn up and missing next to our table near the window, not sure if it is the original location but it sure looks like it could be! They had some vintage signs on the walls as well.
I got a grilled cheese sandwiches since I was feeling a bit under the weather, and not feeling up to a hot dog but wanting to be a good sport. As you can see the food was served on paper plates and there was a roll of paper towels in the middle of the table for napkins. The sandwich was good but then again it’s kinda hard to mess up grilled cheese, LOL!
Mr. B got a side of their famous chili to go with his, he loved it, I did not. It was too thin and watery for me and tasted unlike any other chili I’ve had before.
I don’t think they had a soda machine because she was refilling our styrofoam cups with cans and bottles and even gave us a bottle to take with us to-go. Overall it was a good experience, minus the waiting for service & food, and I’m glad that we tried it. Not bad when the 4 of us can eat for under $28! (Boo was not with us that day). Now we too can say that we’ve had a Chris’ Hot Dog!

I have been here 3 years and have never ventured to enter Chris’. I appreciate the review though because it saves me a trip. I am customer service snob hahahaha

Yeah I agree, I’m not big on sitting around and waiting, LOL!
