I have been on a huge map kick lately and have been using them for several projects! It’s been so much fun! So if your looking for some ideas for how to use map for crafts for DIY projects here are a few ways that I’ve used them.
I took a lamp that I had with a shade that was messed up and recovered the shade using a map. It was a bit tricky trying to get the map cut out to fit right around the shade but I got it done! I then wrapped a piece of twine around the bottom of the lamp shade.
I found an old table that had the ‘ugly’ dark glass in the top and wanted to repurpose it. I covered the glass with a map and sealed it with several clear coats. I painted and distressed the table using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, we ended up loving it so much it now sits in our entry hall.
I took 2 pages from an old German Atlas that I’d found at a Thrift store and glued it to the top of the table. I then covered it with several coats of clear coat so that it could be used as a functional piece.
I found this crazy ‘homemade’ stool that was in need of some help. So I took off the legs, glued a map around the top part of it and covered it with a clear coat. I then painted & distressed the legs using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I really hated to see this stool go when I sold it at the craft fair.
I have been wanting to do a map wreath for awhile! I found an old atlas and tore out pages to make this wreath. I rolled them into cones and glued them together and I love how it turned out!
Have you done any neat projects with maps?

I love these ideas! I’m using Miss Mustard Seed (totally novice at it) paints… what do you use to coat your table top? I’m thinking of the map idea for a bookcase.

I use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint 🙂

Thanks! I meant your clear coat… did you just get it on the economy?
Mrs B says
I use Annie Sloan clear wax for the painted parts and I just used a clear coat I bought on the economy for the maps.

Please be careful with lamp shades. If the paper and trim are not flame retardant, they could catch on fire. Especially if they got turned over while the bulb was on. Blessing to you and your dear family.

No worries, I use it for decor, it doesn’t even have a lightbulb in it 😉
