The Towada Horse Park is a great place to spend the day with the kids, there is also a little shop that sells our favorite treat, soft serve vanilla ice cream! There are horses the kids can pet/feed, horses to ride (for 1000 yen, about $10, so we don’t do that part) and several play grounds. Oirase Gorge Lake Towada in the Winter
Here are pictures of Oirase Gorge in the Winter. Notice all the the waterfalls are frozen solid, there was some free flowing water in the streams but not much. Also notice how high the snow walls are from being plowed. And just a bit of warning, the rest stop at the top (Lake Towada) does not have toilet paper, you have to supply your own. Oirase Gorge Lake Towada in the Fall
Oirase Gorge is a beautiful scenic ride or hike up to Lake Towada, we have visited it in the fall and the winter. Today’s pictures are from the fall visit. It’s an almost 9 mile hike from top to bottom. Boo has hiked this several times for field trips with the school, Mr. B went on the last one and hiked it as well, we’ve only driven it as a family. Lake Towada Snow Festival
Lake Towada (about 1-1 1/2 hours drive from us) had a snow festival as well. It had less snow sculptures but one giant one. It also had an amazing scenic view of the lake partially frozen over. We also went to see the ‘famous’ maiden statues, a temple, and the swans on the lake.
