We were looking for something to do for Bea’s birthday in May and we decided to take a few friends and head up to Airwalk in Birmingham, AL. The kids had a blast! I didn’t jump, just took pics. Mr. B was still deployed and I didn’t need to be sidelined with any injury, LOL!
They had so much fun that we took Mr. B’s family there when they came to visit a few weeks ago! This time Mr. B & I jumped as well as Mr. B’s sister. It was a blast, not to mention a great workout! But man, oh man, was I SORE the next day! My shoulders and neck were aching…guess that’s what happens when you starting doing flips and such that you have done since your teenage years, LOL!
A couple quick tips for your visit:
First, make sure you either call or go online and reserve your time slot for your group. They book up fast! The day we went we got there at 11 am and they were sold out until 1:30 pm, when we left an hour later at 12 pm, they were sold out for the day! I called the first time and the 2nd time they had the online option so I used it, I didn’t have any problems either time.
Next, make sure you fill out the waivers online, it saves tons of time and makes the check in process much faster! If your taking kids that don’t belong to you make sure their parents fill the form out online as well.
Last, make sure you take water for afterwards. They do have a water fountain, but all the kids I took were so hot, tired, and had headaches after we got done jumping. Thankfully I took a cooler with water and they all drank it as we headed to Hamburger Heaven. All headaches were gone by the time we got there to get our shakes.
Also realize accidents can happen. When we were there this last time a boy did something bad to his knee…it was literally on the left side of his leg! The paramedics had to come and take him to the hospital. I was surprised at the response of the Airwalk staff, they continued to let everyone jump on the trampolines around him. Our group was talking about how we felt everyone needed to stop and ‘take a knee’ like in football. Even when the paramedics arrived people were still jumping, we called our group off to wait on the side until they got him off the trampolines and outside. Seems like Airwalk could’ve had everyone stop jumping and then give them extra time to make up for it, but then that might throw them off their tight schedule, but it was kinda tacky.
Here are some pics from our first visit:
There he goes!
Getting out of the foam pit is MUCH harder than it looks, it was like swimming in quicksand, LOL!
Then we headed to Hamburger Heaven, the first time was for shakes for Bea’s b-day for the ride home, and of course we had to try the fried pickles!
The 2nd time with Bill’s family we went to eat lunch AND shakes AND fried pickles ;p
It’s a must eat place in Bham! They say they have the World’s Best Shakes, and I have to say they are pretty tasty!!
