We had been told by a friend that we needed to go eat at the Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant while we were in Pigeon Forge, TN. We are always up for trying out some good eats so after checking into our new and much improved hotel we headed over to check it out.
It was almost 7 pm and we were sure the dinner rush would be gone by then but as we rolled up and seen a full parking lot and people standing outside at the Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant I knew it was going to be a long wait. Sure enough Mr. B checked and it was 35-40 minutes, too long for our hungry family. Thankfully just down the road Applewood also has Applewood Farmhouse Grill, we decided to try our luck there.
We walked in and were able to be seated right away. Mr. B asked the difference between the Grill and Restaurant and was told the Grill was a bit cheaper but you did not get a salad and dessert with your meal, that was fine and not a deal breaker for us.
As soon as we were seated they brought out their famous Apple Julep and Apple Fritters with Apple butter. I tried the fritter and it was great, at Mr. B’s instance I tried the apple butter and was surprised that I liked it and it was really yummy! The Apple Julep was great! We all liked it, so much so that I grabbed a print out copy of the recipe that they have on the table on the way out.
Here it is in case you’d like to try it:
Applewood Farms Apple Julep
1 cup Pineapple juice
1 cup Orange juice
1/4 cup Lemon juice
1 quart Apple juice
Serves 6
I haven’t tried making it myself yet, but it’s on my ‘to-do’ list 🙂
The service for the food was a bit slow. We got our choice of soup or salad and those came quick, I had the loaded baked potato and it was great! After we scarfed those down because we were starving we were left waiting for quite awhile for the food to arrive. To the point that someone who came in after us got their food and the waitress came by and said they were waiting on the chicken tenders for us, from Bea’s kids meal. By the time the food arrived it was only lukewarm, and therefore wasn’t all that amazing. I was surprised because the restaurant was not crowded and so I didn’t expect to have to wait a long time to get our food.
I got the shrimp kabob’s but if your not a fan of spicy then don’t eat the sausage, it was a bit hot for me! The potatoes & macaroni were ok…if you like lukewarm. Overall everyone thought everything was OK but it didn’t have us wanting to come back and try it again. Bea was excited because the kids meal comes with a dessert so she had a scoop of ice cream after her meal.
Bea’s pick of favorite food for the whole trip was the Apple fritters, and I agree they were yummy. The fritters and julep made it worth going but I’m not sure it made it worth the $88 we dropped to eat there. And this was the cheaper of the two places. Next time I’d just see about getting some apple fritters to go instead of eating a meal there.
