As we’re going on our 4th week of Physical Therapy and 3 1/2 wks post surgery things are going well. He’s been doing daily exercises, but he has to do them every hour he’s awake! He’ll get new exercises at 4 1/2 wks. His fingers are healing nicely and the stitches are trying to fall out but it’s hard when he can’t wash his hand.
We’re now to the point where I’m changing his bandages here at home, every 2 days, and bathing his stitches and arm in a bowl of soapy water. Despite this there is a LOT of skin peeling and it’s a bit funky smelling. I can’t wait until he can bathe normally again!
It’s looking like it’s going to be several more weeks of the splint and no writing, we were originally thinking 6 wks at a minimum but I’m not sure if it’ll end up being longer or not. He’ll also have to do some PT for his wrist as it’s been immobilized since the surgery as well since the tendons in the wrist are connected to the fingers he’s unable to straighten his wrist. We’ve been warned if he does before it’s healed properly the tendons can snap and he’ll have to have the surgery again! We do NOT want to do that!
