Dynamikum Science Center in Pirmasens, Germany is a fun way to spend a few hours exploring as a family! This science center is full of 160 hands on exhibits and attractions, two floors of fun including 2 slides back down to the first floor! It’s only 1.5 hours from Spangdahlem, 30 mins from Ramstein and for those at Spang could easily be combined with a trip to the land of the big BX 😉 This is also a great spot for American holidays and down days! We went on MLK day and pretty much had the place to ourselves.
There is a large garage for parking, we paid €3 for 2.5 hours. About a 2 min walk from the parking garage to the entrance of the science museum. It’s also located near the park area as well if you are wanting to explore that area during your trip.
For my family of 2 adults and 2 kids (12 & 15) it was €28. The exhibits are probably geared more towards 6 years and up and while my 15 yr old wasn’t thrilled to be there he did find some exhibits to help him pass the time 😉 We went with another family who had kids ages 8 & 11 and they had a great time, as well as our 12 year old. It was even fun & interesting for the adults.
There are restrooms when you first walk in the building (before entering the science center) and then just after you enter the science center near the lockers and coat rack, and on the 2nd floor near the cafeteria/seating area.
On the 2nd floor there is a cafeteria that has some drinks and snacks, as well as a seating area. Prices were reasonable: sodas €2, bakery items €1,50, fruit €0,70, hot dog €2,30, etc. You can also bring your own food and eat in the seating area as well. We ate at the cafeteria and it was a nice treat before exploring the 2nd floor.
The exhibits were laid out nicely and they were spread out across the rooms. It was helpful that all descriptions are in German and English. The staff working the exhibits, like the spinning house, were friendly and spoke English as well.
Everything was clean and well maintained as well.
One of our favorites was the swings! The others that gave us quite a few laughs were the racing one, the soccer one, and the jumping one because of the photo bomb opportunities when your friends are jumping, LOL!
On the way out we took turns racing down the the slides to get back to the first floor, what a fun way to get back down instead of walking down the stairs!
Outside you can find a park with a disc golf course and some walking paths, which would be great on a nice day to hang out and enjoy the weather.
If your looking for something fun to do as a family this is a great spot, and it can even work as a rainy or bad weather day location because it’s located indoors. I do recommend trying to visit it on a down day or American holiday as you’ll have free access with no waiting times to use all the exhibits!
