First I need to preface this and say that I really dislike fresh green beans! I mean really…yuck, LOL! I love canned green beans though. Mr. B likes fresh ones but not canned, LOL! With that being said last week Mr. B and I decided to try to take a vegetable (Ie Green Beans) and make it several ways a week to see if we could find ways that we liked to eat it. Last week we decided to use green beans, while I was excited to try it I wasn’t sure it was gonna win me over.
First we decided to try them grilled and guess what….they were edible! I mean seriously I could eat them and I was ok with it. I wouldn’t eat a whole pound by myself or anything but I was able to easily eat a good servings worth and they were tasty! The kids weren’t as accepting, but the rule is they have to at least try one, so they did, Bea ate a few, the boys just had one, LOL. {Recipe to follow}
Then we decided to try a recipe I found on Pinterest for Crispy Baked Parmesan Green Bean Fries, sounded yummy to me. I used the recipe from this site. They were good too! We even had some left over and Mr. B at them the next day warmed up and said the were good as leftovers. Again the kids only had one, hopefully if they keep trying it they’ll start to warm up to them.
So on our 3rd time of making Green Beans for the week, to Boo’s dismay, we decided to ‘cheat’ and instead of try another recipe to go back and re-try the grilled one, and this time I took pics and notes for the the blog!
When I was searching the internet for grilled green beans I did find several recipes but I ended up just combining a few to make it work for our family.
Here’s what I used:
1 lb green beans, washed & ends cut
Sea Salt to taste
Black Pepper to taste
Olive Oil
Minced Garlic
2 Tbsp of water
2 pieces of aluminum foil large enough to hold all the beans.
First off we laid out 2 pieces of foil, overlapping so that it would fit 1 lb of green beans. Then we washed and snipped them, and patted them dry and placed on the foil.
Next I drizzled olive oil over them, I just eyeballed it. Then I added some minced garlic, probably around 2 cloves worth since we like garlic, and put on the salt & pepper to taste. Both times I think I’ve under seasoned them but Mr. B thought it was perfect, so I just added more salt while eating.
Then I mixed them all up with my hands to make sure they were all coated. I lifted the edges of the foil up and added 2 TBSP of water and then made a sealed foil packet.
We then threw it in the grilling basket to make it easier to get on and off the grill, but you could easily just put it on the grill.
On the grill, for about 15-20 mins. Mr. B grabbed an end with the tongs every so often and shook the contents around a little.
Super tasty grilled green beans!
Yum!
So this fits my cooking criteria…it’s super easy, super fast, and easy to clean up, yippee! Plus the both allowed me to eat something that I normally wouldn’t, which is even better! These recipes are both keepers!

Oooh, I actually LOVE greenbeans. When I was young I had a false-positive allergy test but I never stopped eating them regardless. 🙂
