Japanese Rice Farmers & Rice Fields

Rice is a big business here in Japan and rightly so. The soil here in Japan is so dark and look so rich compared to American soil. Driving in the countryside you can see Japanese rice farmers working 7 days a week from sun up to sun down. The Japanese have a very serious work ethic and even today many still plant rice by hand. The majority of the fields we have drove by have the rice being planted by hand, although we have seen a couple using a ‘tractor’ of sorts. They also mainly hand gather the rice and manually put it into small or large piles to dry. Here are some pictures I’ve taken during our stay here in Japan.
