Kutnà Hora in the Czech Republic is a fun and easy day trip from Prague. It’s an easy hour drive or you can take a train out there as well. While most people stop to see the Sedlec Ossuary Bone Church outside the city center, the city itself has some neat things to offer as well as a great place to eat lunch!
After our stop to see the Bone Church we headed to the parking areas in the city near the Saint Barbara’s Cathedral. The lot closest to the cathedral was closed so we parked at the one near the road and walked the few mins down to the church, it was P2.
I had checked the hours of opening for the cathedral and it was supposed to be open, however when we arrived were found some confused folks trying to figure out how to get into the church before they realized it was closed. Even if your not able to visit in site the impressive architecture is worth a quick stop by.
We then followed the path down to the right of the cathedral which will take you down and behind it and you can see it as it appears to be rising up over the city, great views!
We were using Rick Steve’s book as usual and looking for some of the other sights in the city but we did detour to head to a local restaurant that was recommended by a friend who is from the area.
We ate at V-Ruthardce and it was delicious and had great prices! Our family of 4 ate for $31.
The menus are in English as well.
For you foodies here are some pics of the food.
Chicken skewer with onion rings.
Chicken with corn on the cob.
Meat & cheese platter.
It even has a creepy story to go with it, use Google Chrome and you can read it HERE
On our walk back to the car we found the Stone Fountain that RS talks about in his book.
One of the other great things about Kutnà Hora is that it was quite and not overrun by tourists, I really thing this town is a hidden gem and worth the side trip from Prague!
