Since I’ve taken up photography I’ve been experimenting with it in some fun ways! I love Bryan Peterson’s books and in one of them I read about how he used Macro Photography to take pictures of water and oil, I just had to try it out! It’s really super simple and can easily be changed by using different backgrounds. I want to do this again after we get settled in Germany.
This project only required a few things; my camera, tripod, glass baking dish with water in it, cooking oil, and some colorful backdrops (I used a scarf and a placemat).
I laid out my backdrop (first I used the scarf, then did some with the placemat), set the dish on top, added a few drops of oil. I also did some with food coloring but that is for another post, when I get my computer back in Germany. Then I snapped away! As you can see there was just a hit a breeze in the air, next time I’ll try it in a more protected area or on a day with no wind. I did stir a few times make new bubbles, sizes, and shapes.
I love the shapes and colors of the pictures! I ordered some prints and plan on attaching them to foam board and displaying on the walls of my oldest son’s room, to give it a pop of color.
I hope these inspire you to grab your camera, water, and oil and go snap some awesome pictures of your own!
Cool idea!
These are so beautiful!! Love the colors. 🙂
Thanks!
In keeping with theme on the water & oil photography, check out these water & ink photographs from the site emorfes: http://emorfes.com/2013/11/10/underwater-ink-photography-mark-mawson/
I’m afraid if I tried this technique the results would be vastly different lol. 🙂
Love these!
Thanks girl!
