This project I just happened upon. I scored the frame on clearance at Hobby Lobby for $6 when I was looking for a chalkboard frame. Around this time I was also planning on making Magnetic Money Keepsakes and needed something to display them on. A lightbulb went off and I decided to make the frame into a magnetic board to display the money. I am working on Chalkboards too and so I think I’m going to make one that is the same size so I can change it out as I want or get tired of using it one way 😉
I started with the 9 x 12 frame, thankfully I liked it just the way it was so no painting was needed, although I can always change my mind later 😉
Then I had my hubby cut the Galvanized metal sheet we bought at Hobby Lobby. It was $11.99 but I used a 40% off coupon and got it for $7.19. Its dimensions were 12x24x0.28. He cut it with a jigsaw & metal blade because we didn’t have tin snips and I was too impatient to wait to get some, LOL! We only used 1/3 of the metal sheet so I now have some for other projects as well.
The end where he cut it did get a bit bend but you can’t really see it in the frame, and I had an idea for ‘dressing’ it up that I wanted to do.
While I do really like it with just the metal, I wanted to see if I could make it ‘pop’ a little.
I took a piece of scrapbook paper and wrapped the metal sheet and then just taped it on the back, that way I can change it out easily when I get sick of looking at it or want to match it to something else.
I popped the sheet into the frame, put the back on and had an instant DIY Magnetic Photo Frame! This whole project cost me around $8 and is so versatile that I’ll be able to use it for many things and for a long time!
Check out my post tomorrow about the DIY Magnetic Money Keepsakes that I’m currently displaying on the board!

You can get some tin snips at Home Depot or Lowes, I didn’t see any at Hobby Lobby, hence the reason for using the jigsaw ;p That was the smallest sized sheet of metal that our HL had too.
