On Friday I had the opportunity to do a photo shoot with a friend and her sweet girls. She’s 34 weeks pregnant and her husband just deployed 3 weeks ago. He won’t be home until the baby is 4-5 months old. I was honored to be asked to help them record this part of their journey of their military lifestyle and while it isn’t always ideal we spouses adapt and overcome and end up stronger on the other side of the journey 🙂
I wanted to be able to capture that he was deployed and not here with the family in the photo shoot. After scouring the internet for ideas and not finding much I decided to tap into two of my friend’s brains and we came up with some cute ideas I’m excited about!
I was able to round up a set of dog tags from a friend, since her hubby is already gone and wearing his and so is mine! I really love how the dog tag pictures turned out.
I also knew that I wanted do something with yellow ribbon since that represents having a loved one deployed so I asked my friend to bring a pic of her hubby and we ended up with this, which is probably one of my favorites from the shoot. I love the pic she brought as well, it was perfect for what I was envisioning.
I also had her bring a pair of combat boots (since we all know the guys have many pairs, I figured she’d have at least one pair left at home) and some shoes for baby.
This is another one of my favorites of the girls, it was a perfect on the spot idea that I love!
Another one of my friends suggested using a map of where he’s at, so after doing some thinking I was able to create a map to use. (It’s in some of the above pictures as well). I put a light heart over his location and we stuck the photo she’d brought on the map as well.
And we finished off with some pics by the fountain, I have to say that this location is one of my favorite spots because of the versatility and multiple background choices.

OMG, I LOVE the shoes – the one with the girls and the two empty sets of shoes and the one with all the shoes. SO gorgeous!

Beautiful photos.
That has to be tough not having your spouse there when you have a baby. My husband just deployed but I’m not pregnant.
