I’ve heard about Stitch Fix for awhile but have been hesitant to try it out, after talking with several friends who use it and love it I decided to go ahead and give it a try. I went into it as a huge skeptic and told my friends I’d be lucky if they sent 1 thing that I liked, so imagine my shock when I loved all 5 items! However with it being the first box, there were some sizing issues to I didn’t
get to keep it all. Below I’ll share more info about Stitch Fix and what I got in my first Stitch Fix box.
This is a fantastic option for those of us stationed overseas with limited options and instead of searching the internet for hours, someone assess your style and choses stuff for you! Shipping to APO addresses makes it easy to use as well.
First off, let’s cover the basics…What is Stitch Fix?
It’s an online personal stylist for women. You fill out an in depth survey of you style preferences, sizes, what items you’d like them to send and for $20 your stylist will send you 5 items.
When the clothes arrive you try them on and decide what to keep, you can send them all back if you’d like but you do lose out on the $20 styling fee. If you chose to keep something the $20 fee is applied towards the purchase. Also if you keep all 5 items you receive an additional 25% off each item, which is really the best deal, if they send you 5 items you like.
The style card includes a pic of how each item can be worn as 2 different outfits, and has a note from your stylist with paring items, which I find helpful.
You can get the boxes every few weeks, monthly, every other month, or as you specify. Shipping is free.
Returns are super easy, after you checkout online you throw them in the prepaid/prelabled mailing bag and drop off as the post office!
Customer Service is amazing, I had some snafus with this first box and they were fantastic with responding quickly and trying to help me out. That alone will have me trying another box for sure!
This is great for me because I’m not a huge fan of shopping, I can do it OK in the US when I can go to 1-2 stores and get what I need but trying to shop here in Germany is painful! Especially if your looking for something specific. Best of all they ship to military overseas APO addresses! And while these prices are bit higher than what I’d normally pay I’m willing to shell out a little extra for the personalize styling and try some things I never would’ve tried AND save time from running around to a million stores here. And prices are a bit higher here in Germany anyways. I don’t generally shop for clothes at the BX either so that doesn’t really help me much.
Ok now back to my first Stitch fix which was for December 2015…
My box was supposed to arrive on Dec. 31st but as those of us at APO know it takes a few days longer. Everyone I’ve talked to here who uses them normally gets them a few days after the arrival date. Unfortunately for me my box did not cooperate, and on Jan 8th it still had not arrived. The tracking also had no info other than the label was created so I emailed Customer Service (CS). They checked the warehouse and couldn’t find it so they sent out a replacement shipment. Of course the next day the box arrived here at the Post Office, not sure where it was because my friend who’s box shipped after mine got hers several days before I sent the email. The good thing is that the 2nd box was sent out without me having to pay the $20 fee so if I decide to send it all back there won’t be any lost cost for me, although I’m looking forward to seeing how long it really takes and what is inside!
I found with this box that the tops seem to run small and so I had to go change the size up to a M although the replacement box will still have small items in it, so we’ll see if they are any better sizing wise. I did ask them about sending larger sizes but they did not have them for 2 of the 3 items and cost wise it wasn’t worth it to keep 3 vs. 2, unless I was keeping all 5.
I specified that I did not want any jewelry, accessories, shoes, etc, just 5 clothing items, and that’s exactly what I got. I also love that the stylist writes you a note and tells you how to wear and pair it with items, because that is not easy for me.
Benson 3/4 Ruched Sleeve Blazer $78 Status: Sent Back
I really wanted to love this blazer, and I did love it, but it was way too small! It didn’t even come close to buttoning and it was hard to get on. So sad because it’s a super soft knit/jersey material and I know I would’ve worn it a lot. And I need a blazer.
Papermoon Morlie Lace Inset Blouse $48 Status: Sent Back
When I first took this out and found that it was sheer I was a bit put off, however when I put it on with a black cami I loved it BUT it was too small across the chest, boo, so it has to go back. I did love the style and the lace on the collar area.
Paperos Iglesia Pleated Blouse $48 Status: Sent Back
I loved that this one was not sheer but again it was too small, this time across the back and I couldn’t lift my arms up all the way, again bummer and it had to go back.
41Hawthorn Danette Dress $74 Status: Kept
As soon as I seen the dress on the picture card I was excited, those who know me know that I wear dresses all the time. I was even more excited that it fit and I love the colors!
Kut From The Kloth Ronnie Printed Slim Stright Leg Pant $78 Status: Kept
I was way skeptical about them being able to send pants I like and pants that fit. I raised my eyebrows at these but as soon as I put them on I loved them! They are so comfortable and different from anything I have. They are a bit long but I loved them so much that I’m keeping them and will get them hemmed.
I ended up keeping 2 items, and sending 3 back. I would’ve easily kept all 5 had the sizes been correct but that makes me excited to see the next few boxes.
If you want to get the most out of the experience make sure that you are very specific, use the notes, create a Pinterest board and comment on the items. She sent the blazer because she had seen that I had it pinned!

Have you had any problems with not being able to return them in time? I’m concerned with the 3 day turn around since we don’t always even get our packages within 3 days of them arriving at the DPO – what’s more the unreliability of “delivered dates” vs. the day it was actually delivered!

I didn’t have issues with returning stuff in Germany, haven’t tried using it here in Guam where mail is much slower.
