Yes, I’m still alive…just incredibly busy trying to keep my head above water this ‘season.’ Between running the house, managing the 3 kids schedules, subbing, and photo shoots it been just a little crazy around here, which is just the way we like it ;p
One of my friends had a baby shower last weekend and I wanted to take something that was going to be unique so I went to Pintrest, and found the Onesie Cupcakes idea! Too stinking cute!!
Me being the shopper that I am went to Amazon and ordered the onesies, washcloths, and Wilton cupcake boxes, because I find it easier to just have stuff delivered to my door 🙂 Guess that’s what happens after you live overseas for 5 years (and despite being back here in the US for 4 years) so at least I’ll be prepared for online shopping after we get to Aviano! I also made some digital paper to match theme of her shower, which was easy since I made her invites and Note to Baby cards. I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut them out so it required no work on my part 😉
They were super easy to make! (Sorry for picture quality I was using point & shoot because my other camera had pictures from a recent photo shoot). All I needed was some tape, and they were literally so easy my 9 year old daughter helped me. We laid out the onesie folded it and put a washcloth at the top and then rolled it up! Slapped on a cupcake wrapper and a little tape, and Viola a cupcake onesie!
Then I just opened up the box, popped in the cupcake holder insert, and popped them into place! In case you couldn’t tell she is having a boy 🙂

I gave it a little wrap with the ribbon and it was all set for the baby shower.
And here it is at the party, hanging out with all the other presents.
This was such a CUTE and EASY idea, and the Wilton boxes came in a pack of 3 so now I only need 2 more baby showers to go to so I can make some more, LOL!
Poppie (my Dad) came to visit and we decided to drive up to Callaway Gardens, located in Pine Mountain, GA. It took right about 2 hours to drive there. We also drove by Lanette which is where our furthest away Football game will be, and wow that one’s gonna be a doozie!
We go there just in time to see the 2nd Birds of Prey show of the day, it was a neat show with some beautiful hawks. It was so neat to have them soaring over our heads, literally so close that their wings were hitting our heads.
We had a few minutes to spare before the show so we walked down the walking trail to a bridge and took some pictures. There were tons of trails for walking and biking. You can tell that Bea is my daughter because she didn’t want to stand close to the trees, plants, etc because she was worried about bugs, LOL! While I’m not that sensitive to bugs (athough I’m not a huge fan either) I’m sure not ‘outdoorsy’ and my idea of camping is a cabin with electricity and plumbing ;p
After the show we drove over to the Butterfly house and Pioneer cabin area. We packed stuff to make sandwiches so we made a quick lunch and got ready to head into see the butterflies. It was at this moment that I realized that I locked us out of the Tahoe! Sure enough there were the keys hanging out of the ignition! I started to wonder what we were going to do. We tried all doors, and even the ‘broken’ window, but I’d had an Airman from Mr. B’s shop come over and wedge it up so that was a no-go. Right about that time Mr. B sent me a message on FB chat, and I was just telling Poppie that I thought I needed to call USAA. Sure enough Mr. B confirmed that indeed that was what I needed to do. So and I did and guess what, they sent someone out to rescue us and it was FREE! Gotta love USAA!
So while we waited for help to arrive we went in and enjoyed the butterfly gardens and checked out the Pioneer cabin, and just as we were finishing 40 minutes later the towing company showed up. He was able to get my keys out in less than 5 mins!
After that we decided it was time to head home, I think we were still all tired from getting home late from Boo’s game the night before.
So now we can check Callaway Gardens off our list of places to visit before we leave AL, the countdown is on…only 9 months left!

Then I made my own ‘rules’ LOL
After I mixed the 2 boxes of batter I put a little over 1 cup into 6 separate bowls to make the colors. I then colored the batter using food dye. I used a Wilton’s rose for the hot pink. My orange didn’t turn out so I didn’t use it. I’m sure it’s not gonna kill us to have 1 less layer, I’m not even sure how we’re gonna eat all of this bad boy!
Then I baked them 2 at a time in 9 in pans that were coated really good with shortening. About 8 mins and then dumped (gently) onto cooling rack and re greased the pans and baked some more. I did not use plastic wrap or freeze the layers, too much work ;p
I let them cool and then I started stacking the layers going in the Rainbow color format ROY G BIV 🙂 as a guideline, layering with white frosting. I ended up using 3 cans of frosting. I did have to cut some of the layers to make them flat. Then I frosted the whole thing. I opted not to use sprinkles, ect on the outside.
I also make a few rainbow cupcakes as well because some of my kids prefer cake without frosting, I know…gasp! I just took a tiny scoop of each color and plopped it into a cupcake liner. I only did 3 color for each because it’s easy to overfill them trying to get all the colors in.
Now you too can be inspired to create a rainbow cake 🙂
