Beaufort Castle in Beaufort, Luxembourg is a great day trip and can easily be combined with some other things in the area like the Schiessentümple Cascade & bridge that is only an 11 min drive away! It’s only 50 minutes from Spangdahlem and 1.5 hours from Ramstein.
The Beaufort castle was a knights castle built from 1150 to 1650, although part of it is now in ruins. The current owner has been restoring the renaissance manor part of it. This can only be seen on a guided tour that is offered twice a day, see website for times. You can however visit the ruins separately anytime during opening hours, english brochures are available for the self guided tour.
There is free parking just across the street from the entrance of the castle.
To see the ruins area it’s €5 adult, and kids are free up to 26 years of age. The entrance fee also includes a sample of the local liqueur ‘Cassero’ which is made from black currents. It’s available for sale from the shop as well and is fairly inexpensive. We chose to do the self guided tour of the ruins.
There are quite a few stairs so keep that in mind when planning the visit as well.
You can climb to the top of the tall tower, which is quite a few steps
but you get a great view from the top.
The areas are labeled with numbers and you can read about each one in the brochure.
The main courtyard area view.
There is also a small torture chamber that you can walk down and see.
There is a small tower above the prison area as well.
We spent about 30 mins exploring the castle ruins and taking photos.
Another castle visited in an amazing area of Luxembourg as well!
