Happy New Year! I wanted to re-cap where we have traveled in 2014 🙂 We hit our 1 year mark here in Germany in November 2014! We’ve taken advantage of the past 12 months and have traveled quite a bit!

The Himmerod Abbey is an active monastery that is located near Spangdahlem AB in Himmerod, Germany. It’s a nice little day trip, but I’d say more suited to the warmer months. I’ve heard the restaurant & cafe there are good but we haven’t tried them yet. While we normally don’t visit places twice the cute Dudeldorf Christmas Market is close and worth visiting each year. It’s only open one weekend each year so make sure you have it on your calendar if you want to go. This was our first year going to the Trier Christmas Market. Unfortunately I can’t say that I was super impressed but we went so I can check it off our list! I think the hardest part is the the Christmas markets are all pretty much the same and the few awesome ones we’ve seen make it hard for the ’standard’ ones to live up too, LOL!

On Bub’s birthday last month we decided to take him to Karthalle Wittlich to go Go-Karting. He had done it in Belgium with a friend and had fun but we are wanting to wait to go there while Boo is back for his Christmas break, so we decided to check this one out because it’s so close.

Schinderhannes found at Hotel Landgasthaus in Sohren, Germany is a great lunch treat after shopping at Kaefer’s. They offer some yummy daily lunch specials and we found them to be quite delicious! It’s literally a minute drive down the street from Kaefer’s.
The best thing is that for lunch they offer a 3 course meal for €9,80! It’s a different meal choice each day but the one we had was delicious! [Read more…]
Kaefer’s Das Porzellenhaus or (Kafer’s Porcelin house) in Sohren, Germany is a must see shopping spot! It’s great for shopping for yourself as well as gifts for family! It’s mainly known as Kaefer’s to the military community. It’s well worth the 1 hour drive especially if you combine with the lunch specials at Schinderhannes (blog post coming!).
