I am so excited about my upcycled lamp to toilet paper holder! As you know here in Germany storage in the bathrooms is scarce and in the case of the kids bathroom there wasn’t even a toilet paper holder. Of course the BX didn’t have any either…go figure. So I decided to make my own! All I needed was an old lamp, some Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (ASCP), and wax. This was a super easy and quick project.
Japanese Inspired Refinished Night Stand
I recently completed a Japanese inspired refinished night stand. Wahoo, I’m finally at a point where we are starting to get settled and I can again work on projects! Storage is a HUGE issue here in Germany as there are no closest and NO bathroom storage. I needed something to go in our Japanese themed bathroom and this night stand (which is taller than your ‘average’ night stand) fit the bill! Plus [Read more…]
Staying Busy & Custom Bachelorette Invite Design
I know I slacked and my post did not go up on time today, better late than never right?
I’ve been staying so busy! We’ve been in the house 3.5 week and are about 90% done getting unpacked & settled. Everything is unpacked but there is still stuff we need to find spots for to put away. My craft room & studio is a HOT MESS and I’m trying to avoid it, LOL! I have a friend coming next week to [Read more…]
DIY Super Hero Birthday Party
Each and every year my amazing friend goes all out for her twin’s birthday parties, this year it was a Super Hero Birthday Party. It turned out so stinking cute! I wanted the share it with you so you can be inspired if you too are planning a Super Hero Party!
She was able to successfully pull all this off by spending a few hours scouring the internet for ideas, using a silhouette, and some time [Read more…]
Black & Pink Refinished Desk and Chair
Back in 2011 for Bea’s birthday we redecorated her room for her and surprised her. We bought her a cute desk but she’s super hard on furniture and we really need to re-do it before the PCS. I FINALLY got it checked off my list last week!
This was the before, we were also just using a small wicker stool that we found. It has since died and been thrown out.
As you can see there are maker spots, [Read more…]
DIY Magnetic Board Photo Frame
This project I just happened upon. I scored the frame on clearance at Hobby Lobby for $6 when I was looking for a chalkboard frame. Around this time I was also planning on making Magnetic Money Keepsakes and needed something to display them on. A lightbulb went off and I decided to make the frame into a magnetic board to display the money. I am working on Chalkboards too and so I think I’m going [Read more…]
Chevron Birthday Party
My friend recently had a Chevron themed birthday party for her daughter’s 13th birthday. Me and a few friends pitched in and helped her to throw the party and surprise her daughter. We had a great time making the decor, setting up, and I took some pics too.
I even made some Chevron invites which I have edited to make generic for Etsy.
She ordered this awesome cake from a local cake place here, [Read more…]
DIY Wooden American Flag
Awhile back I’d seen an idea on Pinterest to make a wooden doormat, while that one didn’t turn out as expected…aka…FAIL…it did give me another idea.
I decided to cut it in half and make this cute American Flag, which is perfect for our military home 🙂
I started with recycled 2 in by 2 in boards that Mr. B had picked up for me and bought a flat piece of wood to attach them too. I cut the boards 19 3/4 in long with my miter saw, which was the length that I needed to cover the flat board underneath.
I then used drywall screws to attach them to the board. I used 3 screws per board and I attached them from the base (flat board) into the 2×2 boards. That way they wouldn’t be seen on the front. After they were attached I gave them all a real good sanding.
This is the back after it was painted. I painted both the front and back red (because I had planned on using it for the failed project), this is the color that inspired the cabinet project.
I sanded down the red on the front and distress it. I then sanded off the majority of the red on the boards that I wanted to paint white. I used acrylic paint to paint the white boards, the blue box and the white stars. After painting it and letting it dry I did a light sanding to give it a distressed look.
A close up of the distressing
The stars were the hardest part, I decided to go for a shabby look instead of trying to get them all perfect. I found a star stamper I had and I used that and then filled it in more using a foam brush. I sprayed it with light coat of polyurethane to finish it off.
I love the way this ’surprise’ project turned out. I may be able to go back and salvage the failed project later…just haven’t had the motivation yet 😉
It’s finished dimensions are 19 3/4 wide by 12 1/4 high. I may attach something to the back later to hang it (it is heavy) but right now I’m happy just leaning it up against something.
Refinishing A Laminate/Veneer Dresser
Awhile back at the NAF Sale I scored this dresser…well they called it a TV stand…for $30. While it’s dark piece, which I like, it was banged up and scratched up enough that I knew I’d have to refinish it. It also had a small piece broken off on the side, which had to be glued back on.
So I started with this and I knew I’d have to refinish it similar to the dining room table because of [Read more…]
Baby Shower Onesie Cupcakes
Yes, I’m still alive…just incredibly busy trying to keep my head above water this ‘season.’ Between running the house, managing the 3 kids schedules, subbing, and photo shoots it been just a little crazy around here, which is just the way we like it ;p
One of my friends had a baby shower last weekend and I wanted to take something that was going to be unique so I went to Pintrest, and found the Onesie Cupcakes idea! Too stinking cute!!
Me being the shopper that I am went to Amazon and ordered the onesies, washcloths, and Wilton cupcake boxes, because I find it easier to just have stuff delivered to my door 🙂 Guess that’s what happens after you live overseas for 5 years (and despite being back here in the US for 4 years) so at least I’ll be prepared for online shopping after we get to Aviano! I also made some digital paper to match theme of her shower, which was easy since I made her invites and Note to Baby cards. I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut them out so it required no work on my part 😉
They were super easy to make! (Sorry for picture quality I was using point & shoot because my other camera had pictures from a recent photo shoot). All I needed was some tape, and they were literally so easy my 9 year old daughter helped me. We laid out the onesie folded it and put a washcloth at the top and then rolled it up! Slapped on a cupcake wrapper and a little tape, and Viola a cupcake onesie!
Then I just opened up the box, popped in the cupcake holder insert, and popped them into place! In case you couldn’t tell she is having a boy 🙂

I gave it a little wrap with the ribbon and it was all set for the baby shower.
And here it is at the party, hanging out with all the other presents.
This was such a CUTE and EASY idea, and the Wilton boxes came in a pack of 3 so now I only need 2 more baby showers to go to so I can make some more, LOL!
